Making its debut at Milan Design Week 2023, the SEYUN collection by Zaha Hadid Design, in collaboration with Karimoku Furniture, is a true blend of top-notch design and craftsmanship. Our team at TC & Friends was asked to oversee the visual communication of the launch, working with both teams to create digital and physical assets representative of the collection. This included a bespoke logo lockup and ‘X’ symbol, as well as a limited edition A3 poster and A5 booklet, which were given to guests during key moments in the week.

To maintain consistency across the visual assets, we designed a bespoke logo lockup – delicately laying out each of the logos to create a solid unit. The name ‘SEYUN’ comes from the Japanese ‘星雲’ (read as SEI UN) – with 星 meaning star, and 雲 meaning cloud. To reflect the visual motif of stars, which is present in the collection’s design, I created a custom ‘X’ symbol, with one point extending outwards – as if it was a shooting star.

SEYUN ‘X’ symbol

Our logo lockup and ‘X’ symbol were graciously included throughout the exhibition designed by the team at Zaha Hadid Design – even making it onto a beautiful rug marking the entrance.

The special SEYUN poster, printed by F.E. Burman on G.F Smith Peregrina Majestic, features a photo of the Metallic Blue SEYUN chair taken by Masaki Ogawa. The logo lockup and exhibition details were foiled with a metallic blue foil from Foilco (No. 6738) to create a subtle, artful effect. Limited to a run of 200, these posters were given to special guests during the week.

In addition to the special poster, we designed a limited run of SEYUN booklets to document the collaboration thus far. The bilingual booklet (English and Japanese) features text written by Tony Chambers, as well as an interview with Hiroshi Kato, Executive Vice President of Karimoku Furniture. As with the posters, they were given to special guests and press during Milan Design Week.
